Sucre is made for mooching and any lazy morning inevitably includes a few idle moments soaking up the sunshine in Plaza 25 de Mayo. Once suitably photosynthesized, I then nip into Chocolates Para Ti on Arenales for a bag of their delicious truffles to sate my choco-craving, or head across town to the public market, where a mixed fruit shake provides my full hit of vitamins for the day ahead. Sucre's easy-to-navigate grid system is ideal for exploring by foot - nothing is more than a short stroll away. After browsing the shops around the Plaza, the sound of closing shutters about marks time to head for La Posada. There are three certainties in this place: the set lunch is excellent value, the courtyard restaurant is pleasantly buzzing and the homemade lemonade is as zingy as ever. After lunch, I try to elevate my attention span from my stomach to my brain and head off in search of local indigenous culture, maybe taking in an exhibition at the textile museum, ASOR, or the folklore museum, MUSEF. After a late afternoon coffee and a spot of idle people-watching at Cafe Tertulias on the main square, my thoughts turn to the night ahead. Calle Nicolás Ortiz is the place to be for the most compact of bar crawls. Perennial faves? A dark Inca beer at Bibliocafé Concert, then dinner at the Joy Ride Café, and then rounding off the night by sinking into the comfy sofas at the latter's upstairs cinema bar to catch a movie over a cheeky nightcap.
