Liège's food group pyramid is waffles, frites , mussels, choccies and beer!
In this city, fab food (including sublime praline chocolates), bad weather, high taxes, and the best beers are accepted as part of daily life. In fact, chocoholics beware! Nowhere in the world will test your self-control as much as Liège.
Lively Liège (Luik in Flemish, Lüttich in German) is the capital of Liège province, Belgium's third largest city, and Europe's third largest river port.
Liège's museums hold a rich showcase of medieval religious art, the likes of which you won't see anywhere else in Belgium; for that alone Liège merits your visit. The centre's Rue St-Jean-en-Isle and Rue St Paul are filled with fine restaurants and packed brasseries. Wander the winding streets in the old Féronstrée area and try Tchantchès' favourite drink, pékèt; Tchantchès is Liège's mascot, a puppet who loves getting riotously drunk and headbutting people. He is much loved and, to the Liègois, he typifies their free spirit.
