On Australia Day (26 January), Kangaroo Point hosts cockroach races. Brisbane's major festival of the arts, the outdoor Brisbane Riverfestival, is held over two weeks in mid-September. The Royal Queensland Agricultural Show (the 'Ekka') is held at the Exhibition Grounds in mid-August. There's also a 12-day international film festival in July/August, Tropfest's short film telecast live at South Bank in late February, and a biennial music festival every second June (odd years). Also in June, in even-numbered years, kids get their moment at the Out of the Box festival, a week of performances, workshops, art and games all designed to excite and enthrall 3-8 year olds.
