Armenia will put a happy gleam in the eye of most budget travellers, though the value of the Armenian dram can move quite sharply and suddenly to alter travel budgets. Still, Armenia is cheap, and without much effort you can get by on around US$25.00 a day. Food and public transport are very cheap, and it doesn't cost much to look at churches and ruins in the countryside either. But if you're used to a few more creature comforts and like to splurge occasionally, expect to pay around US$50.00 a day. It's easy to spend more if you want to; Yerevan has an excellent range of accommodation and there are a growing array of upper-range hotels catering to wealthy Armenian diaspora, in resort towns such as Dilijan, Jermuk and Tsaghkadzor.
Changing money in Armenia is fairly easy. There are exchange booths in all the regional towns, but ATMs are only starting to appear outside of Yerevan. The Armenian dram has been rising steadily against major currencies over the last three years - up about 25%.
Tipping for good service is standard practice in Armenia - the usual 10% of the bill is normal.
