Anguilla caters to an upscale clientele looking for a tranquil respite. Staying at a high-end resort or luxury villa will cost at least US$200.00 per person per night, and a few villas on the island run upwards of US$20000.00 a week. However, gather a group of six or seven friends and a four-bedroom villa can become downright affordable.
Budget travellers are rare but welcome; however, you should come prepared to cook. One hotel runs US$20.00 per night and a small handful of beachfront rooms cost under US$100.00 in the off-season, but all come with cooking facilities. In most restaurants, main courses can run upwards of US$30.00 , but a well-stocked grocery store, local restaurants and mobile barbeques means it's possible to keep costs to US$80.00 a day for food and shelter.
Generally hotels, car rental agents and restaurants list prices in US dollars, while a handful of local shops mark prices in EC dollars. However, you can readily use either currency, and most places give a fair rate of exchange. You can change money at Barclays Bank and Scotiabank, both in The Valley. Most major credit cards are accepted at all hotels and moderate to high-end restaurants.
A 15% service charge is added to most restaurant bills, and no further tipping is necessary. An 10% government tax and a 10% service charge is added onto hotel bills.
