Tour description provided by G Adventures
It’s impossible not to fall in love with Iceland once you lay eyes on it for the first time, and nature enthusiasts, active hikers and shutterbugs will fall especially hard for this trip. This Local Living experience introduces you to the unique populace of this tiny island nation as they lead you around their exotic, volcano-forged homeland, dotted with hot springs, calving glaciers, crystal-clear rivers and crashing waterfalls. Active options include everything from snorkelling between tectonic plates and whale watching tours to whitewater canoeing trips and ATV excursions, so come prepared to do all sorts of everything.
Day 1 Reykjavík
Arrive at any time. After an optional group dinner, go out on the town to experience Reykjavik's vibrant nightlife.
Day 2 Drumbó (1B,1D)
Enjoy a half-day bicycle tour of Reykjavík and stop off at Kolaportið, the local flea market and also the best spot to buy fresh fish for a feast. Your CEO will buy some fresh delights for dinner that night while at the market.
Travel approximately 1.5 hours to reach the house that will be your home for the next week close to a river and small forest. Complete with two fully equipped kitchens and close proximity to a big patio with a hot tub and sauna, the setting is a perfect homebase for your Iceland exploration. Note that the house is on a working farm and also the home base for a river rafting excursion, so there will be other people present during certain parts of the day, either getting ready for rafting or working on the farm.
Day 3-6 Drumbó (4B,4L,4D)
One day, enjoy an included visit to the Golden Circle including the Gullfoss Waterfall (32 metres high!) and the Geysir Hot
Springs located just 10 km away, which include a variety of geothermal pools and the erupting hot spring of Strokkur.
Do as much or as little as you like during the rest of your stay in Iceland. Each day your CEO will be offering one of the following optional activities:
• Snorkelling between two tectonic plates at Þingvellir
• Canoeing down the Hvítá River
• Hiking along waterfalls, rivers and mountains
• Whitewater rafting, caving, or whale watching
If you choose not to partake in the optional activity of that day, you may opt instead to enjoy the facilities of your home away from home - chill out in the hot tub, rent a bicycle on site to explore the surrounding area or make use of the nearby rafting centre.
Iceland is the place to get active in nature, and the scenery doesn't disappoint. Dinners will feature home-cooked Icelandic specialties; feel free to lend a hand if you want to learn to make some new dishes! You will have an Icelandic cooking demonstration on Day 3.
Day 7 Reykjavík (1B)
Transfer back to the capital and opt to bliss out in the famous Blue Lagoon en route. Depart any time after 11am, unless you want to spend an extended amount of time at the Blue Lagoon.
