Tour description provided by Viator

Grenada, the ‘Island of Spice,’ is world-renowned for its spices, which are prevalent in the island’s foods, drinks, ointments and even things like soap! Get a first-hand glimpse of how these spices are harvested, processed and transformed on this spice plantation tour. With your expert guide, visit the West India Spice Facility to see where nutmeg, pimento and lemongrass oils are extracted from raw materials. Explore the L’Esterre Estate, where cocoa is harvested using traditional methods, and visit the Belzeb Factory, a small cottage that uses Grenada spices and herbs to produce an array of soaps and herbal teas.

On this day trip, explore Grenada's spice plantations with your expert guide and discover why Grenada is known as the ‘Island of Spice’! After pickup from your hotel, head inland to Nianganfoix Estate to visit the West India Spices Facility, one of the largest spice processing and distillation plants in the Caribbean.

Tour the facility with your expert guide and see how Grenada’s spices are extracted and processed through steam distillation to produce essential oils. As you stroll through the beautiful spice garden, learn how to grow nutmeg and understand why Grenada nutmeg is some of the best on the planet!

Next, drive to L’Esterre Estate, which uses over harvesting methods more than 200-year-old to grow organic cocoa beans. These coco beans are the primary ingredients in the Grenada Chocolate Factory’s delicious array of sweets. Tour the pristine estate and learn about the history behind harvesting coco beans in Grenada from your guide.

After, stop at the Grand Etang Nature Center in Grand Etang National Park, home to lush, tropical rainforest vegetation and the mischievous mona monkey.

Make one last stop at the Belzeb Factory, a small cottage that produces a variety of soaps, body lotions, oils and herbal teas from locally grown herbs and spices. Here, you'll have the opportunity to purchase any locally made items that catch your eye. After browsing around the cottage, you’ll be taken back to your hotel.
