Volunteer - A Traveller's Guide to Making A difference Around the World

International Federation of L'Arche Communities

www.larche.org

L'Arche is a federation of 131 communities which provide a family-style living environment for people with intellectual disabilities.

Timing & Length of Placements

Differs from one community to another but most volunteers stay for at least several months, if not a year.

Destinations

There are L'Arche communities in 34 countries on all continents.

Costs

This also varies with each community. Volunteers are usually provided with accommodation and meals and sometimes pocket money. Airfare is covered by the volunteer.

Eligibility

While L'Arche communities are usually of a particular religious denomination, every community accepts people of all faiths or no faith. Age restrictions apply to volunteers in some countries. Applicants should be prepared to engage in close relationships with others - both those with or without intellectual disabilities. People with physical disabilities are invited to apply.
