Australian Volunteers International (AVI)

The most well known of Australia's volunteer programmes, Australian Volunteers International (AVI) has been operating since 1951 and has recruited more than 6000 Australians for volunteer placements in over 68 countries.

Timing & Length of Placements

Between three months and two years. AVI runs quarterly volunteer recruitment drives but volunteers depart year round.

Destinations

30 countries in Asia, the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

Costs

All volunteers receive travel, living and accommodation allowances, visas and medical insurance.

Eligibility

Volunteers can be aged from 18 to 80 but are required to have at least two years work experience in their field or profession. Volunteers need to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold permanent residency status. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
