Vietnam Pictorial
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 3 December 2010
Quite literally some of the fastest moving people on the planet, it is a miracle that I could get anyone to stand still long enough to capture them on film. That said, the chaotic frenzy known as Vietnam also has a serene side. Both extremes work to create a photographer’s paradise – check out our [...]

Bun Bo Xao
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 19 October 2010
Bun bo xao, which literally translates as “noodles beef stir-fried,” is one of my favorite dishes and the perfect light lunch for a hot and sticky day. Also called cold noodle salad, the dish provides the perfect contrast of hot and cold. Cool vermicelli rice noodles are topped with hot tenderloin beef sauteed in onion, [...]

Diving Nha Trang
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 18 October 2010
After so much diving in the Philippines, I couldn’t suddenly go cold turkey, so I decided to do some dives in the islands off Nha Trang, which is generally considered Vietnam’s top underwater destination. As Thomas had a cold, I was on my own this time – or so I thought. It seems that the [...]

Clay Pot Specialties
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 17 October 2010
While in Nha Trang, we’ve had the chance to sample several Vietnamese clay pot dishes. Somehow, I love the idea of cooking food in a clay pot. It sounds so organic. The cooking technique requires soaking the pot in water for about 30 minutes before the food is added. Once the pot is heated in [...]

Returning to Nha Trang
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 15 October 2010
I’ve never been to Nha Trang before, but in many ways, our arrival here felt like an important return. On Dec. 18, 1967 my father, who was in the US Air Force, was sent to Nha Trang where he worked for exactly one year refueling planes and driving fuel trucks. Those of you familiar with [...]

Back on the coast
Blog: Orn's travel blog - South-East Asia and China - 25 February 2010
We are back on the coast, off the route map on the right, in Nha Trang to be exact. You can locate it on Google Maps by clicking here. Nha Trang is like Benidorm’s kid sister, it is a long long beach with pristine waters. Along the beach you have a bunch of hotels and [...]

Hawkers and hookers. Nha Trang, Vietnam
Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 24 January 2010
The best way to describe Nha Trang is as a Vietnamese Playa del Ingles. A playground for westerners and wealthy Vietnamese, Nha Trang offers everything you would expect from a tourist blackspot – a beautiful white sand beach, plenty of accomodation, more bars than you can shake a beer at and a handful of great [...]

Continued – Sunburn, squoodles and splattered chickens. Hoi An to Nha Trang, Vietnam (Day 2)
Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 23 January 2010
It’s difficult not to get annoyed when every single car, truck and motorbike that passes beeps at you. This counts doubley in the morning when you have just woken up, have not yet eaten and are facing a 10 hour ride on the rock solid seat of a bike which is smoking as if it [...]

Sunburn, squoodles and splattered chickens. Hoi An to Nha Trang, Vietnam. (Day 1)
Blog: Chronicles of a year-long break-up - 23 January 2010
From the very first day, our biking tour was the real Top Gear experience – our shoebox of money only bought us rattley old shopping trolleys; having the largest head in Vietnam meant that Simon almost had to resort to strapping a collendar to his head; and Gary obliged us by kickstarting our two day [...]

Nha Trang
Blog: Where is Rob? - 20 November 2009
Nha Trang is our third of five on our way down the south coast of Vietnam and it was here we finally caught up with the sun again. Far less humid than Bangkok and with a cooling sea breeze it was a nice place to be (weather wise). We only ended up staying here 2 nights in the end due to the next bus being a 7 hour day trip, which is absolutely rubbish as it eats into a day we don't really have! Hué to Ho Chi Minh City
Blog: Kieron Clark - 7 July 2009
In Hoi An we ate ‘white roses’ – tiny shrimp fried in thin rice paper parcels. In Saigon we had spring rolls, greasy and spicy and still-hot from the pan. In Hué a speciality was bahn xio – shrimp, beansprouts and shredded pork wrapped in a crispy, crèpe-like pancake, while in Hanoi, we ate [...]

Nha Trang
Blog: barnz2k : Vegan Nomad - 20 June 2009
Nha Trang is basically a Beach Party town, with not much else! I got the second sleeper bus with Dave and Scott from the UK who I met in Hoi An. Dave has got another foot on me, so he was struggling even more to fit in the sleeper, it was however slightly better than [...]

Vietnam by Bus
Blog: barnz2k : Vegan Nomad - 10 June 2009
The best way to see Vietnam (OK maybe 2nd best after getting a motor bike ala Top Gear) is by Bus. Various places sell hop-on-hop-off bus tickets, topping out at around $45. The most popular route is to start in Hanoi and head South to, Hue, Hoi An, Mui Ne, Nha Trang, Dalat and end [...]
