I am aware that this info may well be on the FAQs but if it is, I can't find it.

Back in the 1990's, one had to specify the entry and exit points before one even arrived in Vietnam. Is this still the case?

Also, of lesser importance, when I was mountain biking along the Laos/Vietnam border last year from Xam Tai to Phonsavan, I met a lot of Vietnamese who were able to cross obscure and VERY interesting borders in that area. Are they open to foreigners? Are there more borders than what is…

Planning a trip to Vietnam with my girlfriend leaving from Melbourne to SGN on 22/11 and flying out of SGN on 6/12.
We're really keen on places like Cat Ba Island, Nimh Binh and Hoi An but cautious as to whether to even bother with the North/Central as I've been told the weather can be pretty miserable that time of the year. Also another constraint may be the limited time we have (two weeks) to get North from flying in and out of Ho Chi Minh. We're also ofcourse interested in a couple of days in…

Hey Fellow Travelers,

Many of you may have heard legendary stories of Hoa's Place from older backpackers that had the opportunity and privilege of visiting Hoa's place over the past 20+ years before 2011. People that knew how to read the Lonely Planet saw the small blurbs in the early editions of LP Vietnam mentioning Hoa and knew it would be a great place to go. He became a staple of the later LP editions even though for years the government threatened to shut him down and take his land. In…

Hi,
We will be arriving to Sapa on start of October and have few questions about treks in the area

1) I've read that the trek to Fansipan is in a bad condition - garbage everywhere and doesn't offer nice views on the way. also that the cable car ruined the authenticity of the trek.
To those who did it after the cable car was installed - How was it?
Can it be done alone in 1 day (going down with the cable car i guess)? If so, where can we find a good map of the path?

2) I would like to do a 3 day…

Went to the Cu Chi tunnels today. Made our way through the tunnel I am 54 and husband 59. Husband had to crawl as he is a big man, but I was able to walk hunched over. We then visited the war remnants museum, it was totally confronting. I could have sobbed at human cruelty. Somehow I struggle with war history becoming tourist attractions but on the other hand it is history we need to know.

Halong Bay

I am looking for a tour in Halong Bay on a small boat. We would like to do a 2 or 3 day trip in November. No luxury needed, just clean, good food and activity like kayak, exploring... without a big crown on board. Can anyone help... lots of websites, hard choice...

We were badly ripped off today. We were out side Ben Thahn market when 2 men with a rickshaw each offered my husband and I a ride to the Hong Kong market for 150,000 dong each. We tried to pay upfront but they said to pay when we arrived at the market. When we got there they said they would wait for us and take us back to our hotel, after half an hour we returned and they began to take us back but stopped a block before our hotel and pulled out a laminated card with prices and said we owed them…

The agent previously known as Cape Dragon Travel at 43 Nguyen Binh Chieu, has changed his name to Bao Travel and he is up to his dirty old tricks again
ie he told the driver, by text, of a car he had booked for us to get the 850,000 VND balance of the 1,800,000 VND fare to Ho Chi Minh city from us even though I had paid the agent the night before so he would not have to get up early in the morning.
I was doing the agent a favour only for us to have a horrible scene with the driver at the drop…
