Whilst the hotel there offers their own tours to Hue for around USD $180, are there any other alternatives anyone can suggest?
Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has any information on Yok Don National Park. My friend and I would like to see elephants while in Vietnam, but do not want to contribute to any mistreatment of the animals. This park seems to be a well protected area that provides a safe habitat for the animals, but I'd love to hear some testimonials to be clear that this is what it claims to be. If there are any recommendations for other parks we are open to options!
thanks so much!

has anybody done it this way lately
We'll be spending a few days (3 or 4 most likely) in the area around Ha Long Bay in early January. We are trying to decide to base ourselves on Cat Ba Island or Bai Tu Long Bay. We would like to get out and explore the karsts and the sea, but doing that in a crowd of diesel powered boats is not very appealing. All of it looks beautiful. There are flights between Ha Noi and a place near the national park (otherwise an 8-10 hour train/car ride), but they are priced too high for my budget. Therefore I'd need to probably use 3 days toward the national park...
Thanks for your help.
I've read about the pre-arranged visas, where you use an agency to email you an approval letter, then pay for your visa on arrival.
This sounds far easier, if less fun, than going up to London to visit the embassy. Can anyone recommend a reputable agency for me? (UK passport, if it makes a difference).
doing my homework and looking for THE beach/es...you know white sand, turquoise water and not 'too' overcrowded.
I stumbled across Phu Quoc Island and it looks like the ideal place if there were not a few 'ifs':
1-Overpriced resorts: 250€ a night for something nice?!?!?
2-Mixed reports about friendliness of people, noise, crowds of local tourists and stray dogs ...
Any advice on this regard? You know a few huts on the beach, nice restaurants around, laid back atmosphere and…
