Mosaique Livingroom
This intimate nightspot books touring artists from around the world. Expats appreciate the Livingroom because it caters to Western preferences, so if you're hankering for a taste of home, head here - the vibe can be very positive. It's a private club that opens its doors to the public fairly often.

Le Petit Bruxelles
Brussels-style brassiere occupying a fine old colonial mansion and its shady courtyard. The set-lunch deal is superb value, but venture à la carte and you’ll find mussels, frites and plenty of classic European fare. This is a favoured meeting place for French expats.

Quan An Ngon
Fancy that street-food experience, but afraid to take the plunge? Head to this incredibly busy, popular place that’s rammed with locals and a smattering of expats. Minikitchens turn out terrific food, including specialities from all over the nation like squid with lemongrass and chilli or chao tom (grilled sugar cane rolled in spiced shrimp paste). Be prepared to wait for a table.

Mao Red Lounge
Probably the most popular place on Ta Hien, the place is rammed with a sociable crowd on weekend nights. It’s a classic dive bar with dim lighting and air thick with tobacco smoke.

Cha Ca La Vong
The antiquated atmosphere here is legendary, and its rickety floors, overcrowded tables and gruff wait staff live up to the billing. Head straight upstairs for the full-on experience, and leave behind all expectations of a relaxed midday repast. It's a one-dish sweatshop, specialising in cha ca (fish grilled on your table with turmeric and dill, served with cold noodles and peanuts).
