On a sultry evening, you'll want to be seated on the terrace of Au Lac House, sipping cocktails and dining on finely prepared Vietnamese dishes. It's housed in a roomy colonial villa and the service is attentive and efficient, but the food is not to be outshined. The kitchen deftly concocts rustic country dishes and more-exotic innovations.

    gone downhill?

    We were on the terrace on a sultry evening in May of this year, and i'm not sure it was where we wanted to be at all. The service was terrible - slow and inattentive. There were uncleared plates stacked on sideboards in the dining room. The food was average, and this is Vietnam - the food, on the whole, is way better than average. And it was expensive (for Vietnam). Maybe it has gone downhill, but i certainly wouldn't recommend it based on our experience.
