Lonely Planet review for Highlands Coffee

Aboard a big old ferry boat, Highlands gets you out on the water without actually setting sail. Its decks offer a fine vantage point and a chance to catch a refreshing breeze while enjoying smoothies, shakes and ice cream. You can also order a light meal or breakfast. The signature product, of course, is coffee.

    A nice and simple cafe

    kiaki recommends this,

We went to a couple of these places when we just wanted a quick sandwich and drink. It's clean and has a relaxing atmosphere, which is great after spending any amount of time in busy Hanoi!

    Good for: Sandwiches

#2 to do in Hanoi? Save $ - just go to Starbucks & add soil

    lordmelchitt does not recommend this,

I'm astonished this ranks so highly. It's a Starbucks rip off only nowhere near as good but with similar pricing. The coffee is often burnt and bitter and there's no love of a good barista to justify the inflated prices. The alternative is a character filled Vietnamese joint selling the real deal for a fraction of the price. No Fru-fru-chinnos, maybe, but drink style Vietnamese coffee that will give you a jolt and thrill your tastebuds. Why come all the way to Hanoi to drink your coffee any other way?

Good for: Nothing, frittering away inheritance

    Not good for: service, coffee

    High Land Cofee-Starbuck of Vietnam

    joy_anisara recommends this,

There are several branches of High Land Cofee. One is on the boat near the lake and I found another brance, located in the garden which I am not sure what it is...it supposes to be a theater (the one near Hilton Hotel). It was really good to sit back with good smell coffee and see the old artchitecure building. Try to find it

    Highlands Coffee Hideaway

    chloe00 recommends this,

Spending a couple of hours at Highlands Coffee makes a restorative getaway from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi and its traffic. It’s not a traditionally Vietnamese atmosphere, but more a 'time-out' from the busy-ness of the city. The coffee, European in style, is good for those who’ve had a little too much condensed milk, and are craving a cappuccino. The Highlands Coffee on 7 Dinh Tien Hoang also makes a nice stop for coffee overlooking the lake, with a great view of the traffic chaos from above.

Good for: atmosphere, food, Budget Travellers, Solo Travellers, service
