Lonely Planet review for Mao Red Lounge
Probably the most popular place on Ta Hien, the place is rammed with a sociable crowd on weekend nights. It’s a classic dive bar with dim lighting and air thick with tobacco smoke.

Lesser of a few evils for tourist-zone bars.

This bar was better in the past. It's still on OK place to drink in the area, but is really headed for a tourists and expats-only crowd, which personally I consider boring and the death of any real drinking establishment. This Friday night I was in the downstairs bar and met something like 10 foreigners and expats, and no locals (though to be fair there were a few about as I left). The upstairs is great for sitting around with friends, but as with any seated area cannot be described as social. Thoughtful interior design, convenient location, but in truth little to recommend it.

Watch your change. Tourist rip-off joint.

My girlfriend and I had a well-earned night here are a few months of penny pinching. Started off well, decent price for drinks and fun music. Reached a point where the previously friendly barman pocketed most of our change from a large note and then when questioned insisted that we owed more. He then got his manager involved who may be the single rudest person I've ever met. He insulted my girlfriend for no reason and then tried to add drinks and food onto our bill.
We wouldn't go back, I have never been so embarassed. There are better bars on the same street.
