Lonely Planet review for V Cafe

A travellers’ favourite, this cute bistro hung with Chinese lanterns serves a mix of Asian and Western mains. Service is very good and you can choose dessert from the small spread on the counter.

    One good place

    tri300589 recommends this,

I was drawn to BMT for the coffee - which was wonderful - but at first glance the town looked fairly uninspiring, so we hired a motorbike for a few trips out into the countryside...

    Good restaurant, live music

    peter_leonard_lee recommends this,

This place does great soup - broccoli, vege, pumpkin. The fish & chips is okay, the goulash is good, the grandma's roast pork is good, as are many other dishes. (I live in Dalat, so go here quite often). It is a little more expensive than the other two best restaurants though (probably all on a par with each other) - Da Quy and Chocolate.

Another restaurant worth checking out, with the most plush furniture of any restaurant in the centre of Dalat, & a very nice atmosphere and a pretty good menu too, is Adaly. Hardly anybody goes there. It's below the English language school "Dalat Academy" on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia. It's not advertised well, but its food is pretty good. It can be a tad expensive compared to others, but very cheap compared to western prices. I especially recommend the summerruler (fresh spring rolls) and chicken rice adaly, but other dishes are good too: steamed rice cakes (bahn beo). The wild boar is nice too, if a tad small and expensive. Salmon steak isn't bad either.

Good music, good food, good V cafe !

    foundlosthorizon recommends this,

We found the cool place to enjoy night time in Dalat. At V cafe, we had a great night with delicious Mexican food, good wine, warm atmosphere. Specially, we love good live music there, acoustic. We also felt comfortable with the lay out, the decoration and friendly staffs. That's was so romantic night of us.

Had a great night out - enjoyed the food, the music

    longtimeinasia recommends this,

We were quite surprised to find such a cool place in Dalat. Great food. Enjoyed a nice bottle of Chilean wine. Amazed that Dalat would have such good live music - on par with the best we've seen in Saigon. Overall, a great evening, and very nice to get away from the backpacker part of Dalat, which we found much more pushy and touristy.

Good for: music, lunch, breakfast, dinner, drinks

Good Food, Music and Atmosphere: V Cafe

    chickencordonjew recommends this,

Having just finished the 8 or so hour bus ride of death (crazy driver) from Ho Chi Minh to Dalat we were ready for a beer and some good food. The girl in our hotel recommended we try V cafe. So we walked from the center of town to this beautiful old house with a cozy interior sat down and were promptly asked what we would like to drink by a girl whose English was surprisingly good.Ordered 3 beers which arrived quickly. The beer need having been taken care of we were ready to order some food. The menu at V cafe is large and quite comprehensive for a restaurant in Vietnam and covers every thing from Mexican food to pizza to few Asian dishes. I ordered a pizza with various meats while my friends had Chicken quesadillas and beef pho. After what was not too long of a wait our food arrived and oh man were we surprised the pizza was quite good thin crust all the ingredients in right proportions. My friend said her quesadilla was good. And the beef pho my friend claimed was one of the best bowls he had ever had.

After finishing we decided to stay around drinking and after a while a band came in. While they were not the best musicians id ever seen the music was good and they seemed comfortable playing a large variety of music everything from blues to rock and roll.

I highly recommend V cafe to anybody who is looking for good western food and a relaxing but lively atmosphere at night,

    Not good for: Non smokers

Live music - decent food - not bad at all

    pa_dave recommends this,

The food in general was pretty good, but the charm of this place is the ambiance. Many westerners here, as well as good music made for a nice evening.

Enjoyed a big night out in Dalat with live music, great food

    vietnamtravelman recommends this,

My family and I had a great time at the V Cafe. We were treated to a surprisingly good night of live music with a few guest musicians joining in... (blues, folk, light acoustic music...). Pizzas were great. We also had a Mexican dish and a Vietnamese dish, both tasty. We came in the next day for a hearty breakfast before going on the city tour. Some cool train memorabilia on the walls.

Worst Food in Dalat, High Prices!!!

    martinsage does not recommend this,

I've been in Dalat now 2 months (Oct.&Nov..2010) and have eaten everywhere.
I've eaten at VCafe 3 times and twice with friends.
1st time---Pizza that had no taste unless you like cardboard.
2nd time---Pasta that had so much salt poured on it I couldn't eat it and no tomato sauce or grated cheeze on top.
3nd time---Musili cereal with a small cup of yogurt and no milk, French toast with nothing to eat it with.
Also, the waitress speaks such little English that you have to explain what you want a million times and point to make sure she gets it right.
Finally, they advertise live music and yet I've never seen them. They always have an excuse why they didn't show.

    Good for: Nothing

    V Cafe

    rebmihm2 recommends this,

This cafe is fantastic! There's a variety of food from all over the world, including tasty Vietnamese food (best pho in Dalat). It is a relaxing atmosphere in the daytime with great live music at night. You can sit inside or outside and still enjoy the scenery of Vietnam. The workers speak English, are friendly, and know their stuff. They even deliver food to homes/hotels which is FANTASTIC when it's the rainy season!! A must visit!!
