visa from UK

applying for a visa off to Vietnam 9th December is it better to apply via vietnamvisachoice.com as suggested in LP? Anyone had any experience? Not been to Asia since 1986 so advice would be useful, mostly travelled in W. Africa. Any suggestions for accommodation in Ho Chi Minh on arrival until I get my bearings. Thanks

Hue Google Hotel not what it used to be

My wife and I stayed one night at the Google Hotel in Hue Vietnam. We selected it because of the enthusiastic review in our Lonely Planet guide. Perhaps this hotel once was an "excellent new place" with "huge flat screen TV's" but those days are long gone. We reserved a "deluxe" room, for $30 per night. The first room they put us in, on the 3rd floor, was not satisfactory because the door would not latch and lock. In the second room, on the 4th floor, the door would lock, but it smelled as…

DIY Mekong Delta 2/3/4 day from Cambodia side

Hi all,
will be exploring Mekong delta in mid December, entering it from Phu Quoc island and going to HCMC. Relatively flexi with time could spend 2-5 days, but obviously don't want to overstay. Interested in homestays, floating market and just basically explore the region. Maybe someone could help with itinerary, homestay contacts and thing to do/see.

Phu Quoc or Mui Ne

We are going to Vietnam in November and also visiting Laos and northern Thailand. This will be our third trip and we wanted to finish at a nice beach. We are flying out of HCMC and were thinking Phu Quoc or Mui Ne for the last few days. We want to relax and have restaurants and bars close by preferably within walking distance. We were leaning towards Phu Quoc but as it's high season we are not so sure. Would any one who has been to both have any advice on which place would be better?…

advice

Hi fellow travelers,

We are seven of us and making a trip to Vietnam in about two weeks. It will be our first visit to this country, so we might be shooting in the dark. Our plan is to fly down to Da Nang, make a few excursions there and then via Hue proceed northwards to Hanoi, from which we will visit Sapa and Halong bay. Please allow me several questions concerning accommodation and other technicalities. I appreciate any tips and/or reactions.

a) In Danang we would like to stay at My Khe…

Itinery help please - 3 weeks Solo Female

Hi
I was hoping to get some help/advice on my itinery for my 3 week trip to Vietnam in November. I'm a female travelling on my own; interested in scenery, food, nature, atmosphere, "way of life" and the markets. I'm also hoping to do at least one cookery course in Vietnam and really want to see the Chi Chi tunnels. This is a bit of a last minute trip so I'm desperate for some help please? I arrive in HCMC on 9th November (eve) and fly out of HCMC at 0025 on 1st December. My basic plan…

Buying a Vietnam Airlines ticket online

Hello all. There is a wide discrepancy between one-way domestic fares listed on the Vietnam Airlines website and the same flights listed on sites such as Kayak and Expedia. Vietnam Airlines' website saver fare (Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi) is less than a hundred dollars, while the other sites list the fare as $200+ or even over $300.

I've read that there are fake Vietnam Airlines sites on the web, but Vietnamairlines.com looks like the real portal for the company.

Does anyone have experience…
