I'll be heading back into Vietnam shortly for another visit and want to go to some places that I've not been before. I'll be flying into Hanoi (To visit some friends)from Bangkok and out of HCMC. The plan is to stay for a couple of days in Hanoi and then get the train south (Possibly stopping in Hue or Da Nang to break the journey up) and then heading for Nha Trang (Place not been to before number 1). From there, the idea was to go to Da Lat but I see it isn't on the main railway line. From the…

I live in Bangkok and am planning to visit HCMC and Nha Trang in mid July and am hoping to get some hotel/GH reccomendations. I have been to both cities about 3 years ago. The "backpacker" area of HCMC is ok, say around $20 per night and in Nha Trang a block or so from the beach is ok. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello all, I'm planning to teach English in Hanoi starting at the end of this year but wanted to spend some time in Ha Giang first. There's a home stay/volunteer opportunity that sounds interesting...the volunteering involves teaching English so it would be a good fit. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar or has stayed in that area for an extended amount of time (2-6 weeks). Just trying to get a feel for the area and how enjoyable it might be as a place to live temporarily. I'd be…

Hi everyone,
I am hoping that you can offer some advice. Myself and my husband and 2 kids aged 10 and 12 will be flying into Hanoi in early to mid October and we have about 6 weeks. As we have kids we will likely stay longer in the places we visit so the kids (and us) don't get burnt out from too much travel. We are pretty experienced budget travellers and looking to do this on the cheap side with some splurges for boat tours etc. We like hiking, kayaking, biking and exploring out of the way…

Hello

I am visiting Vietnam for the first time in late July and was hoping I could get some up to date advice from people that have been there recently! I will be leaving Ho Chi Minh to cross the border into Cambodia to travel to Phnom Penh, and I was planning on buying a moped in Ho Chi Minh and doing the journey on bike, then exploring the rest of Cambodia before selling it on.
I understand the risks of ridding mopeds over there, but what i really want to know is this a realistic plan, ie are…

I noticed this phrase in the Hoi An section of the Travel Fish website.

"The helmet law is taken very seriously. Always wear one — and one that fits. Try to get a helmet with a hologram sticker. Without it, it will be smashed at the side of the road and you’ll have to buy a new one and be fined whatever the police feel they can get from you".

Whats this hologram sticker they're talking about? Is it something specific to Hoi An or elsewhere as well?
Its been 5 years since I've been in Vietnam…

Is it worthwhile visiting both the Mai Chau valley and Sapa? We were thinking of visiting both from Hanoi for about 3 days each, in September. Thanks for your suggestions and advice.

Hi guys,
I will be free 4 days when visting Hanoi for business. Want to find somewhere near Hanoi for relaxing in these days off. I've searched through Internet and found out that Hanoi-Halong-Sapa and Hanoi-Mai Chau-Halong itinerary are often choosen. Which one is better for relaxing in 4 days? I can skip Hanoi because I am going to take time to visit there before having days off. I travel with group of 3 people, intend to come in the ending of July. Open for all suggesstions. Thanks a lot.
