Lonely Planet review

Occupying the eastern end of the Parque Central complex, the Museum of Contemporary Art is by far the best in the country, if not the continent. In a dozen halls on five levels, you'll find big, bold and sometimes shocking works by many prominent Venezuelan artists, including Jesús Soto, famous for his kinetic pieces.

There are also some remarkable paintings by such international giants as Chagall, Matisse, Monet, Leger and Miró, and - the pride of the museum - a collection of a hundred or so engravings by Picasso, created by the artist from 1931 to 1934. Part of the exhibition space is given to changing displays that showcase both locally and internationally renowned artists. There's also a pleasant café in the adjacent sculpture garden.
