Lonely Planet review

The Museum of Colonial Art & Quinta de Anauco is housed in an elegant country mansion known as Quinta de Anauco, laid out around a charming patio and enclosed by lush, shady gardens. A ball was staged here in honor of Simón Bolívar's very last night in Caracas: he was never to return alive.

When built in 1797, the mansion was well outside the historic town. Today it's just a green oasis in the inner suburb of San Bernardino, a 10-minute walk northeast of La Candelaria. You'll be rewarded with a guided tour around meticulously restored interiors filled with carefully selected works of art, furniture and household paraphernalia. Tours depart roughly every half-hour. Chamber-music concerts are held in the adjacent former stables on Sundays.
