  1. Dome of Saint Peter's Basilica, Vatican City

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 24 October 2011

{ Vatican City - May 2011 } The dome of Saint Peter's Basilica can pretty much be seen from all around the Vatican City, and the surrounding area in Rome. There is just something about the dome, that was partly designed by Michaelangelo, that captures the eye. It could be the elegance in the simplicity, or the majestic grandeur - either way, it is something that you would not be able to miss on your visit to the Vatican City.

  2. People of Vatican City

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 21 October 2011

{ Vatican City - May 2011 } Vatican City may be the smallest country in the world, but each year, millions of tourists and pilgrims visited the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter's Basilica, and many more spent time around the huge Saint Peter's Square. All this made it a great place to people watch, and of course to take snapshots of tourists. And, no mention of the people of Vatican City would be complete, without the Swiss Guard, in their bright uniform of blue, red, orange and yellow. Saint Peter's Square

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 19 October 2011

{ Vatican City - May 2011 } State of the City of Vatican. I am fascinated with small little countries, such as Lietchstenstein, San Marino and Maldives. I am even more fascinated with small little countries that pack a punch, like Monaco. Of course, no other country is smaller than the Vatican City, and packs a bigger punch! I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of treasures and influence that Vatican City has!

  5. Bus 64 to Piazza Stazione San Pietro

Blog: Ron in Rome - 21 June 2011

The 64 bus in Rome is probably the most famous – or rather infamous – bus in the ATAC system. The route is very popular for tourists, and unfortunately, also for pick-pockets. For many travelers, it’s simply known as the … Continue reading →

  6. All the Italian cities are unique

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 22 May 2011

Managed to go to quite a number of cities around Italy, and like one of the owner of the Bed and Breakfast we stayed in said "There are three Italy - the Northern Italy, the Southern Italy and the middle one". I fully agreed! All the cities that we went to were very different - it felt like we were in different countries! And most of the time, the traffic best described the mood of the city. Venice

Blog: See Simi Travel Blog - 28 February 2011

Did you know visiting the Italian capital allows you two visit two countries at the same time? But if you want to see anything in the "Holy See" (or Vatican City, an entirely independent country in the heart of Rome), you had better get there early! What's the deal with Vatican City anyways?

    Blog: Landlopers - 9 September 2010

Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 2 July 2010

June 7, 2010 - We made it to Vatican City on our second day. Took the Line 1 Metro and got off at Ottaviano station. St. Peter's Square is a couple of blocks away. We have a reservation for Vatican Museum at 1:00 so we thought we'd explore the Basilica first. It was a good thing I booked our tickets to the museum in advance because the line was so long!

  15. Standing Tall in Rome: Obelisks of the Eternal City

    Blog: Landlopers - 9 May 2010

Oddly enough, Rome is a city of obelisks. Amongst the most impressive are eight ancient Egyptian and five ancient Roman obelisks spread throughout the city like chess pieces. Obelisks were prominent in the architecture of the ancient Egyptians, who placed them in pairs at the entrance of temples. After the invasion of Egypt, not only did [...]

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 27 October 2009

Amazingly, I made my way over to the Vatican this morning without getting lost once. Not bad considering it’s the complete opposite side of my map and I encountered several one way streets where I wanted to turn. I need to reiterate what I said last night though, these roads are chaos! The riding style [...]

I’m just on the way to the Stadio Olimpic to try and get this ticket, it doesn’t sound overly promising though from what people have been saying. 22. Italy (Day 5) – Vatican City

    Blog: Andy's Rotten Ideas - 8 October 2009

After having our breakfast at the hotel, my wife and I got into the bus to Vatican City. A territory enclosed by stone walled or buildings within the city of Rome. It’s the smallest country and population in the world. How ironical. At least, something to put into my travel profile. The city is ruled by the bishop of Rome; guess who…it’s the Pope who is the head of state and head of government of this city. On our way to Saint Peter’s Square, I saw this impressive round structure was once a castle called Castle San Angelo. Today, it's a museum and a place to explore.
