Car & motorcycle
Vila has a number of car-hire companies including Avis (22570; Olympic Hotel), Budget (23170; Lini Hwy, Nambatu), Discount Rentals (23242, 24475; Lini Hwy, Nambatu) and World Car Rental (26515; PO Box 1050; Lini Hwy, Anabrou). A one-day hire of a four-seater costs around 6500Vt, including value-added tax (VAT) and insurance, and the companies are open from 7.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, to noon on weekends. Petrol generally costs about 130Vt per litre.
Scooters can be hired through Budget (23170), Nautilus Scooter Hire (22398; Lini Hwy) andZuma Scooter Hire (25609, 41000; Lini Hwy). Prices are typically 2800Vt for a half-day and 4100Vt for 24 hours. You will be given the Adventure Map, showing the boundaries between public roads and private tracks.

The main taxi stands are beside the market and Iririki Wharf. Just ask what your trip will cost – you’ll be given a very fair price. There are over 200 taxis in Vila, and the service tends to be competitive.
