Lonely Planet review

Yet another 19th-century beauty, this one could also be a museum, especially considering the quality of owner Akhbar's collection of suzani and other antiques. The interior of the dining room, restored but not repainted, is just right. Dinners, if pre-ordered, are cooked in a mud oven in the middle of the courtyard; guests are encouraged to don old-style Uzbek outfits for their repast.

The rooms, naturally, are exquisitely adorned. It's hard to find - walk 50m past Sasha & Son B & B (Eshoni Pir 3), turn right, and it's the mud-walled building on your left.

Our independent authors have visited Akhbar House and selected this as one of our recommended guesthouses in Bukhara (Buxoro).
