Yosemite National Park Getting there & around

Getting there & away

Yosemite is accessible year-round from the west (via Hwys 120 W and 140) and south (Hwy 41) and in summer also from the east (via Hwy 120 E). Roads are plowed in winter but snow chains may be required at any time.

Yosemite is one of the few national parks that can be reached by public transportation relatively easily. Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains serve Merced west of the park, where they are met by buses operated by Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (Yarts; 209-388-9589, 877-989-2787; www.yarts.com). Buses travel to Yosemite Valley along Hwy 140 several times daily year-round stopping along the way. In summer, another Yarts route runs from Mammoth Lakes along Hwy 120 East via the Tioga Pass. Tickets are $20 one-way from either Merced or Mammoth Lakes, less if boarding in between. They include the park entrance fee, making them a real bargain.
