Newseum

Unaffiliated with the Smithsonian (ergo the cost of admission), the ‘most interactive museum in the world’ is dedicated to the craft of news gathering and dissemination. Unfortunately it offers a little too much flash and not quite enough substance – lots of CNN-esque zippy graphics and booming montages of current events, but not a lot of insight into the day-to-day work of beat reporting. Still, it’s great for the kids, and the memorial to journos killed in pursuit of the truth, plus exhibits on press freedoms and ethics, are worth the price of admission. It’s also worth your time to wander in front of the Newseum, where the front pages of newspapers from around the world are displayed every day.
