Lonely Planet review for Penang
You can eat like a king at this authentic Malaysian restaurant when cheap meal deals are offered, 11:30-15:00 Monday to Friday. For around US$8 you get a soup, salad, appetizer, drink and noodle dish. Otherwise portions are large, delicious and almost all can be made vegetarian. Try the Kari Mee noodle soup (around US$7). Don't let the outside discourage you: inside the place is intimate Asian chic.

It's all about the food!
justjessipoos recommends this,
Just go to Penang! It's an order!
Have the 'Roti Canai' as an appetiser, it's mandatory, and don't share it, you'll be sorry. The roti bread is perfect, layered and crisp, the Asian answer to the French croissant. Tastes so amazing you just know it must be full of fat! Dipped into the curry sauce, it just gets better.Servings are generous and seem a bargain for such amazing flavours, you'll be full after your mains, but if you really want to tip yourself over the edge, the peanut pancake is well worth the pain.
Hot tip- Penang delivers to some locations! Find accommodation close by so you can get delivery. Make sure your hotel room has a fridge and order too much so you can have leftovers for breakfast the next day!
