Lonely Planet review for El Tamarindo

The waitstaff arrive with water, chips and spicy homemade salsa as soon as you sit down at this friendly, family-run Salvadoran restaurant. Young urbanites flock here early to fill-up on inexpensive taco dishes before heading out to the clubs. The food is cheap; the margaritas or pitchers of Sangria, strong and tasty.

My husband, two young children and I went to eat at El Tamarindo restaurant. When we walked into the restaurant the cashier greeted us with a welcoming smile. She asked what we wanted to order. I told her I wasn't sure what to order. She told me today they are having a taco plate special. I told her that sounded great! They menu offers such a wide variety of Mexican dishes that it is overwhelming if you go there for the first time. I got a taco for my older son and my husband got the beef enchilada dish. She took our order accurately, charged me correctly and handed me the receipt. She told me to have a seat and my order would be called out. It took about twelve minutes before we got our meals.

The place was not busy so the food preparer actually brought our food to us at our table, which I thought, was nice especially having two children. The food preparer asked us with a friendly smile if we wanted anything else. As we were leaving the restaurant the cashier thanked us for coming and told us to have a good day.

The food tasted great. The taco dish came with rice and beans. The tacos were crisp and fresh. It had cheese, beef and lettuce in the taco. The rice and beans were hot and yummy. My husband enjoyed his beef enchilada dish. We both commented on how great the portions are at El Tamarindo. What we also enjoyed was the free salsa bar. There were a wide variety of salsas to choose from which made the eating experience fun.

The atmosphere was clean and attractive. There are wall paintings of Mexican families throughout the restaurant. The place looked clean and free of trash. The booth we sat in was comfortable and clean.
