Washington, DC Restaurants

  1. Andale

The executive chef spent the summer in Mexico and was so inspired that she revamped her restaurant - formerly the Mark - into this innovative, contemporary, south-of-the-border gem. It's been more than five years now, but Andale is still a local favorite serving a solid lineup of complex Mexican dishes. It's all good, from the original artwork and Mexican lanterns adorning the dining room to the caldo de mariscos (spicy seafood stew).

  2. Islander Caribbean

Spicy cuisine and tropical drinks will whisk you to the islands - a perfect spot to be on a humid, DC August evening. Service is decidedly laid-back, but it's worth the wait for grilled fish, fried plantains and rum smoothies, all set to a Caribbean beat.

  3. Rosa Mexicano

With house specialties like made-at-your-table guacamole and pomegranate margaritas, it's no wonder this visual masterpiece across from the MCI Center is usually packed. The shockingly pink dining room and wall-size blue-tiled waterfall see everyone from tourists coming from the Spy Museum to locals grabbing an enchilada and early drink. Aside from the guacamole, the food can be hit-or-miss - ask your server for recommendations.
