Busboys & Poets information
Busboys & Poets (named for a Langston Hughes poem) is one of U St's linchpins. Locals gather for coffee, wi-fi and a progressive vibe (and attached bookstore) that make San Francisco feel conservative. The hearty menu spans sandwiches, pizzas and Southern fare like shrimp and grits. Tuesday night's open-mic poetry reading ($5 admission, from 9pm to 11pm) draws big crowds.
The cafe's slate of events also includes story slams, film screenings and discussion series. B&P has grown to include five locations in the DC region, but this one is the flagship.
