Bombay Club
Lauded as one of DC's top Indian restaurants, this place is popular with movies stars such as Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis. It features cuisine inspired by the subcontinent's diverse cultures and an award-winning wine list. House specialties draw on the best of these, adding the chef's modern touch: spicy seafood curry, succulent chicken tikka masala and hot, hot, hot green chili chicken. The Bombay Club's elegant setting and indulging service allow guests to experience the life of a maharaja, if only for a few hours.

Ching Ching Cha
A serene interior takes you far away from the Georgetown traffic outside the front door. This Asian teahouse is filled with plush red pillows that encourage lotus-style lingering. There are more than 48 different teas to choose from along with lots of small appetizer plates (meant for nibbling over pots of smoky tea) and healthy mains. The place is most vibrant at lunch.

City Lights Of China
It's not much to look at, but City Lights is actually one of the better inexpensive Chinese restaurants in DC. The house specialty is Peking duck, but all the old favorites are here. For the more health conscious, the menu now offers some of these, such as General Tsao's chicken, with sautéed white meat instead of deep-fried batter and served with steamed broccoli and brown rice.

Full Kee
At the best dive in Chinatown, fill yourself for next to nothing with a simple noodle dish or gorge on a wondrous stir-fry. Better still go for one of the rich savory casseroles you won't find at other places, like eggplant and short ribs or pork and bean curd. No alcohol, no credit cards.

Komi
A favorite with DC's foodie crowd, this eclectic new endeavor offers a delectable array of gourmet fusion cuisine (although sometimes chef Johnny Monis takes his ambitious cooking a little too far out of the ballpark). The five-course tasting menu is DC's best deal for fine dining; for a bit less there is the constantly changing à la carte menu. The setting is Venetian fairytale romance with plaster walls and antique candle sconces.

New Heights
This airy 2nd-floor restaurant, winner of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) design award, overlooks Rock Creek Park. Acclaimed chef Arthur Rivaldo serves up delicious new American dishes with Asian and Mediterranean influences and complementary wines. Specialties range from local jumbo lump crab cakes (and they do mean jumbo) to the exotic Opaka-Paka Hawaiian red snapper grilled with black trumpets and grapefruit.

Perry's
You can do sushi here but the creative fusion fare really deserves your tongue's attention. The only problem is deciding whether to dine in the funky lounge or under the stars. For the very adventurous, the Sunday drag-queen brunch is a hoot. This place can be hard to spot because there's no real sign - the doorway canopy uses rebus symbols (like a pear) to spell out the name.

Raku
We love the chicken curry udon noodles here. Our obsession with Raku's noodles may be unique, but everyone else seems to be obsessed with the restaurant itself these days. Where else can you get such a delicious assortment of fresh Asian fusion dishes at reasonable prices? Other menu musts include 'Pan-Asian tapas' and a selection of sushi, salads, fish and meat. How about a green tea martini? There's a second branch in Bethesda.

Tenpenh
Jewel-toned walls and shimmering lights, an abstract painting of an Asian warrior, a 17th-century black Buddha statue: such stylistic touches set the tone for ultra-hip Asian fusion cuisine. Jeff Tunks, of DC Coast fame, adds ingredients and spices from China, Thailand and Vietnam to his well-honed traditional techniques, resulting in eclectic, exceptional culinary experiences for his guests.

Wok & Roll
At this inauspicious address, Lincoln's assassins plotted their scheme and were later hanged for it. These days, much happier plotting takes place here, such as deciding between the light, fresh sushi or steaming, spicy noodles for lunch. The selection of teas - black, green, hot or cold - is impressive; try one of the delicious and healthy milk varieties.
