The neoclassical facade has aged with considerable grace at this marble temple to stylish glamour. Free goldfish on request and a geometric, deco-inspired interior help polish the 1930s, cool-daddy-o vibe, all set in the historic, grand, Corinthian-columned, all-marble 1839 Tariff Building. Bold artwork and modern furniture blend masterfully in the wood-paneled lobby; funky prints and jewel tones add new life to the arched ceilings and wood molding in the guestrooms. The location works well for families: it’s across the street from the Spy Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum and Metro; four blocks from the Mall; and attached to the popular Poste restaurant, which has a kids menu. Sip free wine in the evening, as per all Kimpton-brand properties.
