Lonely Planet review for Lincoln Theatre

Best known for its African American heritage, back in the 1930s the Lincoln Theatre was a high point on the ‘chitlin' circuit' of African American entertainment, hosting celebrities such as DC native Duke Ellington. Following the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King Jr riots devastated the commercial district, but the area has since undergone a renaissance and this historic cinema was recently renovated to once again host music and theater.
