One of the best day hikes in the state, this tough, 8-mile circuit trail culminates in an adventurous rocky scramble – one that's suitable only for the physically fit. Your reward is the summit of Old Rag Mountain, not to mention the fantastic views along the way.

The most commonly used trailhead is accessed from outside the park. From Madison, follow US 29 north for 12.8 miles then turn left onto Rte 602. Drive three miles to the parking area, following the signs. The road eventually becomes Rte 707 then Rte 600. The park website has a page dedicated to preparing for this hike. Check it out before you head out.
