Itinerary
Day 1 San Francisco
Soak up views of stunning San Francisco bay - this colourful, multicultural city will truly capture your imagination. Perhaps arrive early to investigate the legendary Alcatraz.
Day 2 Mendocino
The West Coast adventure heads north along the Californian coastline to eclectic Mendocino. Sublime ocean views and a vibrant arts scene make this a popular stopover.
Day 3 Redwood National Park
Travel down the Avenue of the Giants on the way to the old logging town of Eureka. In the Redwood National Park, hike past towering redwood trees, which are up to 2,000 years old and 90 m tall.
Day 4 Crater Lake National Park
Pass through the rugged landscape of Six Rivers National Forest. Dwarfed by a volcano, Crater Lake has a depth of nearly 600m - making it the second deepest lake in North America. Perhaps attend a ranger-led Crater Lake tour to gain an insight into the creation of this unique phenomenon.
Day 5 Oregon Dunes
Admire the massive Oregon Dunes that rise like a wave from the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Those feeling adventurous may want to jump in a dune buggy and explore the area.
Day 6 Silver Falls State Park
Visit the industrious Eugene, a major centre for lumber and wood products. Stop by Salem and travel onwards into Silver Falls State Park. Choose from a variety of hikes among forested canyons to some of Silver Falls' 10 waterfalls.
Day 7 Mt St Helens
Drive through Portland to Mt St Helens, an active volcano that erupted in 1980, blanketing the surrounding hillside in lava that eventually hardened to form the dramatic terrain now visible today.
Day 8 Mt Rainier National Park/Seattle
Voyage up to Mt Rainier, an active volcano covered with glaciers, then saunter to Seattle - the birthplace of grunge. While in town, perhaps pick up some cheap tickets to a live show or visit Seattle's popular observation deck - the Space Needle.
