Intrepid’s highest physical rating. Get ready for a heart-pumping adventure with plenty of challenges and some extreme conditions. You will be required to be seriously fit for this trip as difficult activities are included.

Culture Shock Ratings

The culture shock rating considers the level of development in the location, the area's infrastructure and how easy it is to access services. It also takes into consideration how different the food and customs are and whether English is widely spoken. While generalisations are always tricky, here’s a summary of the ratings:

Rating 1

This is the least confronting of Intrepid's product range. English is the native language and the food, customs and access to services will be familiar to you.

Rating 2

You will probably have experienced food like this in restaurants back home and English is commonly spoken. Services are available most of the time but there may be some cultural differences.

Rating 3

Expect some culture shock. You will be exposed to signs of poverty and access to services may be sporadic. The food will be quite different to home and English speakers harder to find. Respecting the local culture will make it easier to fit in and really experience the location.

Rating 4

The comforts of home are more of a rarity. English is not common and the food will be quite different to what you are used to. It is important to observe some of the local customs to not cause offence. Many of the locals' standard of living may be confronting.

Rating 5

You're really out there! You'll need to pay specific attention to health and hygiene. A large proportion of locals' living conditions are a world away from standards you are used to. You may have difficulty finding an English speaker and there is little or no access to services. Paying heed to local customs is essential.

Itinerary

Day 1 Seattle

Visit Seattle's famous Pike Place Fish Market or cruise around the many shops and galleries.

Day 2 Coeur d'Alene

Spend the night camping near the picturesque lakeside town of Coeur d'Alene.

Day 3 Bozeman

Drive through immense Montana landscapes and stop into the university town of Missoula. Continue on to Bozeman for the night.

Days 4-5 Yellowstone National Park

Meet Old Faithful somewhere in the heart of Yellowstone as well as numerous creatures including elk, grizzlies and the American bison.

Days 6-7 Grand Teton National Park/Jackson Hole

Be rewarded with a picturesque picnic spot after an optional hike in Grand Teton National Park. Perhaps go rafting in Jackson Hole.

Day 8 Flaming Gorge

Camp overnight near Flaming Gorge, a large artificial lake formed by Flaming Gorge Dam and the Green River.

Days 9-10 Moab

Welcome to Utah county's mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, Arches National Park. Enjoy a late-afternoon Hummer tour and watch the sunset over the breathtaking Moab desert mountains.

Day 11 Monument Valley

A photographer's dreamscape, the vast Monument Valley Park affords awe-inspiring panoramas. Take the opportunity to learn more about this region on a Navajo-guided jeep tour and opt to spend the night with the Navajo for an unforgettable cultural experience.

Days 12-13 Grand Canyon

Be blown away by the sheer size of this world-famous natural wonder. The Grand Canyon National Park is best explored either by foot, along the many hiking trails or aboard a scenic helicopter flight.

Day 14 Las Vegas

Travel along Route 66, across the Mojave Desert and end up among the bright lights, casinos and cocktail bars of Vegas.

Day 15 Los Angeles

Make tracks to the movie capital of the world to wrap up the America's National Parks adventure. Los Angeles city and surrounds offer many exciting opportunities for fun including day trips to Malibu, a cruise on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or a visit to Venice Beach.
