Getting there & around
The visitor center touts shuttles from the airport to Historic District hotels for $25 round-trip. Once in town, you won’t need a car to enjoy Savannah. If you have one, it’s best to park it and walk or take tours. Chatham Area Transit (CAT; 912-233-5767) operates local buses, including a free shuttle that makes its way around the Historic District and stops within a couple of blocks of nearly every major site.
The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV; 912-964-0514; www.savannahairport.com) is about 5 miles west of downtown off I-16.
Greyhound (912-232-2135; 610 W Oglethorpe Ave) has connections to Atlanta ($40, about five hours), Charleston, SC ($29, about two hours), and Jacksonville, FL ($26.50, 2½ hours).
The Amtrak station (800-872-7245; 2611 Seaboard Coastline Dr) is just a few miles west of the Historic District.
