  9. Wild Bill's

Don't even think of showing up at this gritty, hole-in-the-wall juke joint before midnight. Order a 40oz beer and a basket of wings then sit back to watch some of the greatest blues acts in Memphis. Expect some stares from the locals; it's worth it for the kickass, ultra-authentic jams.

    Three Muses

This newcomer was an instant hit with both musicians and foodies – they've managed to happily marry an excellent soundtrack with gourmet cuisine in a more intimate room than most on Frenchman. There's loads of great local art to peruse between acts and courses. Start here.

    Park Tavern

  19. H

    MJQ Concourse

This club inside a former underground parking garage is now all the young indie scenester rage – you enter through a small retractable garage door in what looks like an indiscreet tool shed behind a Chipotle – I mean, where else?

  20. Minglewood Hall

  22. Manhattan Cafe

The antithesis of most downtown Athens bars, this dive is the spot to tie one on if you don't have an 8am Psych class to concern you. It's all funky lighting, mismatched reclaimed furniture and townie attitude.

  23. Jack of the Wood

This Celtic pub is a good place to bond with local 20- and 30-somethings over a bottle of organic ale.

  24. Husk Bar

Adjacent to the excellent new Husk restaurant, this intimate brick-and-worn-wood spot recalls a speakeasy, with historic cocktails such as the Monkey Gland (gin, OJ, raspberry syrup). Very cool.
