Paris Food
Blog: A Traveler's Library - 28 May 2012
FRANCE WEEK This week we’re booking travel (armchair or otherwise) to France. Previously, I’ve waited until Bastille Day to focus on France, but these books were so good, I just could not wait. Later, we’ll look at two specialty guidebooks and an historical mystery novel , along with some pictures from our trip to France [...]This content is a post from: A Traveler's Library To comment on this post or search for related information, click on the link to A Traveler's Library.

Exploring San Antonio from Hotel Valencia Riverwalk – video
Blog: Heather on her travels - 13 May 2012
Hotel Valencia rises from the San Antonio Riverwalk with a shades-of-ochre facade that is distinctly Mediterranean rather than North American. This luxury San Antonio hotel takes its design inspiration from an old world Italian palazzo although the teracotta roof tiles also reminded me of the South American haciendas that I’ve visited on my travels. Inside [...]

Our Texas Road trip – tips for Europeans driving in the USA
Blog: Heather on her travels - 9 May 2012
In Europe you may be used to getting around by bus or train but in Texas the car is king. If you’re planning a family holiday to the USA you’ll almost certainly need to hire a car to get the most out of your trip. In the past I’ve found that car hire often ends [...]

Houston we have a problem! – At the Space Center Houston
Blog: Heather on her travels - 6 May 2012
The year was 1969 as I sat sleepy-eyed on my parents’ bed, watching the flickering black and white TV image of the first man to walk on the moon. Space of my childhood meant the adventures of my heart-throb Captain James T. Kirk and I committed to heart the opening words, “Space the final frontier, these [...]

Park Inn Houston North – Bright, comfortable and convenient for the airport – video
Blog: Heather on her travels - 28 April 2012
One ten-hour flight, two airline meals, three in-flight movies and a hire car pick after leaving London and I was thanking my lucky stars that we only had to drive 20 minutes from the airport before we arrived at the Park Inn Hotel in North Houston. One of the big selling points of this modern [...]

Reflections on the illusive South Congress Bridge Bats – in Austin, Texas
Blog: Heather on her travels - 23 April 2012
I can’t help but thinking that there is something incongruous about being in Austin, beside the Colorado river around dusk any spring evening. Just across the Congress Bridge corporate America looms large and this being Texas I mean LARGE. But here I am with perhaps a thousand people quietly lining the bridge sitting in the [...]

This is just a quick postcard to tell you what we got up to on our recent family holiday in the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin. Texas is pretty flat so the Texans are very proud of the gently rolling hill country – even though the hills are not that high, it’s [...]

In early April I’m off to Texas with the family, on a road trip that will take us from Houston to San Antonio to Austin and back again. Texas is a darn big place and although I’d love to head west to the Big Bend Park for a landscape of cactus and tumbleweed or north [...]

The Secret of Life? Tacos.
Blog: A Traveler's Library - 14 March 2012
Western Road Trip Destination: Southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas Book: A Taco Testimony: Meditations on Family Food and Culture (2006) by Denise Chávez Here at A Traveler’s Library, we seem to be talking a lot about books that tell lives and culture through food. Recently I reviewed the beautiful White Truffles in Winter [...]This content is a post from: A Traveler's Library To comment on this post or search for related information, click on the link to A Traveler's Library.
