Texas

Getting there & away

The busiest international gateways to the state are Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Austin, San Antonio and El Paso also have major airports.

Amtrak (800-872-7245; www.amtrak.com) runs the Sunset Limited train between Orlando, Florida, and Los Angeles three times a week, with stops including Houston, San Antonio and El Paso. The Texas Eagle runs between Chicago and San Antonio daily, with stops in Dallas–Fort Worth and Austin. Note that trains often have late-night arrivals or departures in Texas.

Starting in 2009, passports will be required for all people (US citizens included) crossing the border with Mexico.
