Lonely Planet review for Mi Tierra Café
Red-velvet booths, colorful streamers, guitar-playing troubadours, a colorful pan dulce (sweet pastry) counter - this Market Sq veteran is touristed, but tops for pageantry à la Mexicana.

maylingkuo recommends this,
Mi Tierra reminds me of home and I've returned over the years when I'm in town to see family.
It's truly a restaurant that hits all five senses.
Wade past the crowds, brushing past so many kinds of people - couples on first dates, huge groups of friends before a night on the town, extended families - find the podium and get your name on the list. Don't worry about the wait because there's people watching to do, and most importantly, so many Mexican pastries to eye before the meal. A huge counter displays hundreds of baked goods, filled with smells and brilliant colors to tempt you.
When your name is called, you'll be distracted on the way to the table with colorful lights, papel picado and Mexican art on the walls. You'll pass mariachis serenading tables and lots of loud conversation. The restaurant is good and you can tell they started small, adding room upon room to accommodate the crowds of people seeking their food.
The food hits the spot and is pretty consistent. Prices can be significantly higher than local Mexican restaurants, but you're paying for the late hours, good location downtown and the atmosphere.
It's always a good time and a San Antonio experience not to be missed.. For a real San Antonio experience, order Big Red and save room for sopapillas and honey.
