Lonely Planet review

The Museum of Fine Arts houses one of the largest permanent collections of art in the country in two separate buildings, one of which was designed by the famed German architect Mies van der Rohe in 1958.

The collection touches on every period of art from antiquity to the present but is heavy on French Impressionism, photography, and post-1945 European and American paintings and sculpture. Admission is free every Thursday.

Across the street, the excellent Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden holds works by Rodin, Matisse and others.
