Bus & light rail
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART; 214-979-1111; www.dart.org) operates buses and an extensive light-rail system that connects Union Station and other stops downtown with outlying areas (single trip $2.25). Day passes ($4.50) are available from the store at the Akard Station (1401 Pacific Ave; 7:30am-5:30pm Mon-Fri); maps are also online. Travel Uptown from down on the free McKinney Ave trolley, which runs daily from the corner of Ross Ave and St Paul St, near the Dallas Museum of Art, up McKinney Ave to Hall St.
Car & motorcycle
If you do rent a car, be warned that rush-hour freeway traffic is bad and there’s little free parking downtown; parking garages cost from $10 per day.
Local transport
Taxi
Yellow Cab (214-426-6262) and Checker Cab (972-222-2000) charge an initial $2 for each person that gets into the cab and 40¢ every quarter mile after that.
