For tent campers or smaller RVs that don't require hookups, there are three main campgrounds, some of which can be reserved, some of which are first-come, first-served. Sites typically fill up during spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When everything's full, rangers direct tent campers into primitive sites throughout the Big Bend backcountry.

Surrounded by stately palms and magnolias, this impressive B&B in an 1887 home has an elegant yet updated feel. It's just around the corner from Val Verde Winery and surrounded by bucolic roads fine for strolling.
The most centrally located of the main campgrounds is Chisos Basin Campground, a 60-site campground that has sites with stone shelters and picnic tables.
This concessionaire-operated complex in the basin gets good, if not great, marks for accommodations and food service.
Amistad Lake Resort is the place to stay if you want to go bass fishing. The owner, Byron Velvick, is fishing champion and celebrity (including a gossipy stint on the reality TV show The Bachelor).
Set beneath cottonwood trees near Castolon, the 31-site Cottonwood Campground provides a subdued and shady environment along the river with no generators or idling vehicles to ruin the ambience.
If you have a larger RV, Rio Grande Village is the only facility with hookups within the park. (Trailers over 25ft have trouble navigating the winding roads down into the Chisos Basin.
The Casa Grande Lodge & Rio Grande Motel have private balconies and good views of the basin and surrounding mountains. Most rooms have two double beds; a few have one double and one single.
On the southeast edge of the park, Rio Grande Village Campground offers 100 sites with water and flush toilets. Generators may only be used from 8am to 8pm; mercifully, there is also a no-generator zone available.
The stone-and-wooden-beam cottages at Chisos Mountain Lodge are the most secluded of several lodging options (No 103 has the best view). Restaurant food here is so-so; better to pack a cooler ahead of time.
