Lonely Planet review for Reid Park Zoo

A global menagerie including giant anteaters and pygmy hippos delights young and old at the small and compact Reid Park Zoo. Cap a visit with a picnic in the surrounding park, which also has playgrounds and a pond with paddleboat rentals.

Best zoo for little legs or Most surprising zoo in a city.

    kayladnd recommends this,

I lived here for 14 years, and not until I had my first child did I venture in, and boy did I make up for lost time!
This zoo is great. Giraffes (whom you can feed!), Elephants, Zebras, Panthers, Flamingos, indoor spaces, bird aviary, large duck pond, ant eater, african animals, etc... It just underwent some renovations (which we discovered while on vacation in Tucson) and has a great new snack bar (with not so great food choices) and we finally took the "train" ride which takes you around the park that surrounds the zoo.
It closes rather early in the day, but is open year round.
Check it out. Turn every corner, and go back because you probably missed something!

Good for: Couples, kids, adults, lazy people, seniors, special needs
