Yavapai Geology Museum & Observation Station
Yavapai Geology Museum & Observation Station information
Panoramic views of the canyon unfold behind the plate-glass windows of this observation station on Yavapai Point, one of the South Rim’s best viewpoints. Plaques beneath the large windows identify and explain the formation of the landmarks upon which you’re gazing. With a topographic relief model of the canyon itself and a model illustrating and explaining the canyon’s sedimentary layers, this is an excellent place to bone up on Grand Canyon geology before hiking down. If the exhibits here spark your curiosity, consider attending a ranger talk about canyon geology (check The Guide for locations and times).
