Bus & tram
Bus
There are several daily buses with Greyhound (801-355-9579; www.greyhound.com; 300 S 600 West) south through Provo and St George to Las Vegas, Nevada ($55, 8½ hours); west to San Francisco ($82, 16 hours); east to Denver ($66, 10 to 16 hours); and north to Seattle ($106, 20 to 24 hours).
UTA (801-743-3882, 888-743-3882; www.rideuta.com; fares $1.60) buses serve SLC and the Wasatch Front area until about midnight (there’s limited service on Sunday). TRAX, UTA’s light-rail system, runs east from the EnergySolutions Arena to the university and south to Sandy. The center of downtown SLC is a free-fare zone. UTA buses also go to Provo, Tooele, Ogden and other Wasatch Front–area cities and suburbs ($3); during ski season they serve the four local resorts and Sundance, near Provo (all $6.50 round-trip).
Air
Salt Lake City International Airport (801-575-2400, 800-595-2442; www.slcairport.com; 776 N Terminal Dr) is 6 miles west of downtown. Numerous door-to-door shuttle vans are available at the airport; a trip downtown costs $10 to $15. Call the airport’s transportation desk (801-575-2477) for details.
Train
Amtrak’s California Zephyr stops daily at the Union Pacific Rail Depot (801-322-3510, 800-872-7245; www.amtrak.com; 340 S 600 West) going east to Chicago ($126 to $247, 35 hours) and west to Oakland, California ($66, 18 hours). Schedule delays can be substantial.
