Lonely Planet review

For anyone even slightly into cars (and what good traveller in America isn't?) or social history, this place is a must. There's a plethora of perfectly restored vehicles on show, informatively labelled and displayed in situ , surrounded by artefacts from their era.

The collection includes a few one-of-a-kind, custom-built and experimental autos, such as Bucky Fuller's 1934 Dymaxion and Ed Roth's 1961 Beatnik Bandit. There's also plenty of automotive memorabilia, and if you're really getting into the spirit you can dress up like Jay Gatsby and have your photo taken behind the wheel of an old classic.
