Things to do in Nevada

  1. A

    Well Spa

A quiet, welcoming spa not far from the Strip, here you can seek peace of body and mind. Subdued lighting enhances the co-ed relaxation lounge, ideal for couples, who might choose the mud-painting pittura festa package, which includes side-by-side massages and body-glow treatments. Well Spa also has workout machines and a salon for mani-pedis, waxing and makeup services (no hair styling).

    Red Room Saloon

A locals’ hangout west of the I-15, this slick bar is staffed by serious mixologists (just try their vodka martinis if you don’t believe us). ‘Movie Mondays’ with drinking games ($10 buy-in), First Friday after parties and a variety of DJ nights, from ‘80s rock and reggae to soul and funk, plus bartending competitions, all keep the place packed.

Enter the Zen-minimalist spa, with its wood, rock and water elements, for organic veggie wraps, hot-stone massage and oxygenated facials. Work off your latest bender in the health club equipped with free weights, cardio and muscle-training machines, and if you’re feeling feisty, boxing classes.

    Lied Discovery Children’s Museum

At a public library branch, this award-winning museum is designed for much younger kids than the natural history museum across the street. Most of the rotating exhibits, however, are either too complex for children to operate successfully without lots of guidance or they are too simple and unfortunately, boring. Check the schedule in advance for multisensory creative play workshops for families.

    Stripsteak

Famed seafood chef Michael Mina has dived into the competitive world of Vegas steakhouses. An exceptional menu of Angus and Kobe beef delightfully detours from tradition.

    Stomp Out Loud

Bang, bang, bang. With a set constructed out of junkyard, antique and thrift-store finds, plus leftovers from Planet Hollywood’s recent renovations, this off-Broadway show invokes all things percussive, with energetic dancing and plenty of physical comedy, too. There’s no story line, but it’s so fast-paced you probably won’t mind. It’s all G-rated family fun.

Don’t expect the high-flying acrobatics and aerial stunts of other Cirque shows, however. Stop by the official store for one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

Tired of megaresort casinos stealing your dough courtesy of bad-odds video-poker machines and table games with ridiculous rules that inflate the house advantage (ie ‘edge’) beyond limits that even mobsters would find respectable? Well, the odds aren’t great here either, but at least low-minimum wagers make it easier to stomach. Cheap drinks and fast food keep die-hard low rollers sated.
