Lonely Planet review for Sadie’s

Make sure to snap a photo in front of the sign at Sadie’s that says, ‘in 1897 in this location, nothing happened.’ A massive place with a barn-like atmosphere, Sadie’s is a local institution. One author makes this her first stop in Albuquerque – bar none. Recite along with us: ‘a carafe of grand gold margaritas, please, and the enchilada dinner with blue corn, rolled, chicken, green vegetarian, no onions and a side of guac. Great. Thanks.’

    Doing the Sadie's Split

    wolftraveler recommends this,

We had a craving for Sadie's and invited friends. We got turned on to Sadie's years ago after trying a jar of their salsa from a grocery store. Tasty stuff. Our friends found the parking lot packed. I said it's popular. I told them Sadie's Cocinita is a local institution. They said it's a barn. Our friends complained about the long wait. So what? Let's have some margaritas at the bar and watch some sports. As soon as we sat down, we were served spicy salsa and crispy chips. Love it. Mike and Lucy said it's just filler and passed. I had the house specialty, a huge serving of Sadie's enchiladas. Among the best in New Mexico. Both the red chile and chile verde were spicy and delicious. I thought the chile was hot. Mike said mild. My wife had the red-chile marinated carne adovada. She loved the tender pork marinated in the chile and baked. Amazing food for such reasonable prices. Lucy was not impressed with her burrito. She said the frijoles were tolerable and the papitas were edible, but the burrito was smothered in too much cheese and had more beans than meat. Overall, it sucks! I asked Mike what he thought of his stuffed sopapilla? Mike said the sopapilla, while cooked perfectly, lacked flavor, and the refried beans were worse. The chicken was stringy and dry. Di's right. It sucks!

    Our comment card:
    The food was terrible/great
    The place was crowded/happening
    The service was rushed/efficient
    The décor was Furr's cafeteria/hacienda
The margaritas were best in town/best in town
